Ecstasy of Saint Theresa
Gian Lorenzo Bernini(1598-1680) is an Italian artist who worked primarily in Rome under the Catholic Church. He is an ideal representative of the Baroque period. Influenced by Donatello and Michaelangelo’s work of the Renaissance, also the Classics of the Greeks and Romans, he created paintings, architecture, and sculptures for the Pope. This sculpture pulls the viewer and creates dramatic emotion of the event itself. The ornate and intricate folds help add depth to its perspective plane.
Other works to see: David, Apollo and Daphne, Fontana del Moro
