Calling of St. Matthew
Caravaggio(1571–1610) is an Italian painter of the Baroque art period. He combined the use of light(tenebrism), dramatic action, and the use of linear space. His work pulls the audience into the paintings he created, much of which was mainly religious. Most of his work was religious because he was patronized by the Catholic Church, who was facing problems in response to the Reformation of Protestantism.  He mastered light in his time.
